Google Business Profile

Google Business Profile Management for Maine Businesses

Your Google Business Profile, formerly called Google My Business, is the business information people may see on Google Search and Google Maps: your reviews, hours, services, photos, and ways to contact you. It's often the first impression, sometimes before anyone visits your website. I keep yours accurate, active, and answered, so it's one less marketing task on your plate.

Why it matters

What a well-managed profile helps with

Getting found locally

Your profile can appear when people nearby search for the services you offer.

Showing up on Google Maps

Accurate categories, services, and service areas help people find and contact you from Maps.

Accurate business information

Correct hours, phone number, website, and services mean fewer missed calls and confused customers.

Customer trust

Recent posts, real photos, and thoughtful review responses show there's an active, responsive business behind the listing.

Optimization, explained

What does optimizing a Google Business Profile involve?

It means making your listing accurate, complete, and useful, so potential customers can quickly understand what you do and decide to contact you. It isn't about stuffing in keywords or posting constantly. In practice, that includes:

  • Accurate, relevant business categories
  • Clear descriptions of your services
  • Correct hours, contact details, and links
  • Appropriate service areas
  • Genuine photos of your business and work
  • Thoughtful review responses and relevant Google Posts

Example: a Maine painting contractor

A painting contractor serves Brunswick, Freeport, and nearby towns, but their profile hasn't been touched in a while. The services just say "painting," the hours are from last season, and the photos don't show any recent work.

I'd review their categories and services so the listing reflects what they actually do, correct the hours, confirm the service areas, and suggest photos of recent jobs to add.

That won't guarantee a higher spot on Google Maps, but homeowners comparing painters can see right away what the company does, when to call, and what its work looks like.

More searches are conversational now. Someone might ask Google or an AI tool to help find a reliable painter who serves Freeport. Accurate, consistent business information supports that kind of discovery, and Google lists keeping Business Profile information current among its recommendations for its AI search features. No one can guarantee what an AI tool recommends. For more, see local SEO and AI search optimization.

Questions, answered

Common questions about Google Business Profile management.

Does a Google Business Profile cost money?

No. Creating and managing a Google Business Profile is free through Google, and plenty of owners manage their own. My $150/month service pays for the time and know-how to keep it accurate, active, and answered, so you don't have to.

How much does Google Business Profile management cost?

Monthly management is $150/month and covers routine upkeep, updates to your information and hours, up to two Google Posts, review responses, and a brief monthly summary.

If your profile needs setting up or a focused first pass, the one-time setup and optimization project starts at $300. You can choose either service on its own. Ownership problems, suspensions, and major corrections are assessed and quoted separately.

Does Google Business Profile help local SEO?

Yes, it's a big part of local search. Google says local results are based mainly on relevance, distance, and prominence, and that businesses with complete and accurate information are more likely to show up. Reviews and ratings play a role too.

Google is also clear that you can't pay for a better local ranking. Profile management and Google Posts don't guarantee one either, but a complete, accurate, well-reviewed profile gives your business a fair shot.

Do I need to give you my Google password?

No. You add me as a manager on your profile, and you stay the owner. You can remove my access at any time.

Can I have a Google Business Profile without showing my address?

Usually, yes, if you serve customers at their location. Google asks service-area businesses, like many contractors, to hide their address and list the areas they serve instead. Eligibility depends on Google's rules, so I'll check how your business fits before making changes.

Can you remove negative reviews?

Not just because they're negative. I can flag reviews that appear to break Google's policies and help you respond calmly and professionally to the rest. A thoughtful reply often matters more to future customers than the review itself.

Will Google Posts improve my ranking?

Posts keep your profile current and give customers useful, timely information, but Google doesn't say they directly improve local rankings. I use them to show you're active and to highlight recent work, offers, or seasonal news.
